It was 12:30 am when Heather excitedly told me she thought that her water had broke. A few short minutes later we were on our way upstairs to wake the relatives and head to the hospital. It’s become a tradition that I (Matt) stop to get snacks on our way to the hospital, and after we obliged to tradition, we were off to meet our little boy.

When we arrived at the hospital, we were swiftly escorted to our delivery room. After a couple hours Heather got her epidural (YAY for epidurals!). I know some people object to pain-free labor, but Heather and I do not fall in that camp. For us it’s a lot more enjoyable to not have Heather screaming. After Heather got her epidural she was much more relaxed. A bit after that, Heather’s mom Dotty and sisters Regan and Kristy all arrived to help us welcome our baby boy into the world. We were so thankful to have them share this with us.

The biggest trouble with Heather’s labor was that she was really nauseous. Over the six hours or so of labor she was sick quite a bit (She did get some medicine that helped with it though). I would say it was around 5:30 am or so, that it felt that this delivery could go on for a long time. So we decided that it would be best if Dotty, Regan, and Kristy headed home and we would call them when it was getting closer.

They had been gone for about 15 minutes when our nurse came in and checked to see where Heather was at. We were both surprised when she told us that Heather was complete (10 centimeters) and that she wanted Heather to start pushing in the next 20 minutes. We hurriedly called our support team back (they had just got home when we called). It was crazy how fast this process went, because Heather’s contractions weren’t very close and she was only 5 centimeters dilated a couple hours or so earlier.

Well, the family got back to the hospital and our doctor arrived, all around 6:20 am or so. Our nurse gave the OK to Heather to push with the next contraction. Two short contractions later, Caleb Matthew was born (I posted his stats earlier).

With each of our children’s births I get more and more emotional and it was hard to not cry as I looked at the newest member of our family. The moment was surreal.

Another highlight from the day was when Sydney and Aubrey came to meet there little brother. They absolutely loved holding and loving on him. It was cute to see how excited they were and how they immediately embraced having another little one in the family. Both my girls will be amazing mothers, this I know.

The rest of the day was filled with our relatives stopping by and about a million visits from our nurses (they’re great, we feel super blessed!). Heather and Baby are both doing great. We will post more as it unfolds.

It’s late. I didn’t have Heather proof this (She’s asleep) and so if I used the wrong pregnancy terms, please forgive me.

It’s been a day to remember, thank you for taking the time to read this, hope you enjoyed it.
With love,
